The Legal Profession Act 1976 (Act 166), which consolidates the law relating to the legal profession in Malaysia, confers powers to the Bar Council to make rules under various provisions, as and when necessary. Since the coming into force of the Act, the Bar Council has made many rules for the legal profession. This publication, Rules and Rulings of the Bar Council Malaysia, updated as at 5 December 2007, contains various rules and rulings in 19 Chapters relating to the legal profession. Among others, it includes Letterhead & stationery, Advertising, Professional practice, Court practice and Pupillage. It also contains the Solicitors’ Remuneration (Enforcement) Rules 2004, which came into force on 1 November 2004.

Advocates and Solicitors and pupils are reminded that they are expected to know and abide by, inter alia the Etiquette Rules 1978, Publicity Rules 2001 and the Rulings of the Bar Council. Breach of these Rulings, will constitute “misconduct” under the Act and may lead to disciplinary proceedings against the Advocate and Solicitor concerned or his law firm.

This publication, published by International Law Book Services (ILBS) for and on behalf of the Bar Council Malaysia, is graced by a Preface from the Chairman of the Bar Council Ms. Ambiga Sreenevasan.

Now available at ILBS Damansara showroom and all leading bookshops throughout Malaysia.
